Kim Delaney is an American actress who is best known as the character Detective Diane Russell in ABCs series NYPD Blue for which she garnered an Emmy Award. She is also known for her performances in the drama All My Children Philly CSI: Miami and Army Wives. Delaney was the child of an executive at the United Auto Workers who was also a mother. Delaney has four older brothers. In her early years she longed to be a reporter for the court. After graduating from high school, and moving to New York in the 1980s and began to model, she was hooked. Her first film role was as a teen innocent as a child in All My Children, a soap-opera from 1981. Delaney appeared in a number of television shows, films as well as dramas in the years since. The way she lives her life, unlike her professional has not been a success and has not been happy. There were two divorces that failed and fought with addiction issues. In 2005, she lost custody of her only son.
