Courtney Shanade Salter, also known as Ari Lennox, a Washington, D.C.-based American singer/songwriter, was signed by the label's first female artist with Dreamville Records by J. Cole. Dreamville Records released her debut album titled Pho in the month of October of 2016 when she began to get recognition. Her debut studio album Shea Butter Baby was released on May 7, 2019. Ari Lennox released her music online in 2012 when she released the Five Finger Discount mixtape and Ariography EP in 2013. In 2014, she dropped more music via the Internet including Bound. The song was included in Omen's Elephant Eyes as well as from Sweat It Out, July 21st in 2015. J. Cole asked her to collaborate with him for Rihanna's reference. The debut album of Ari Lennox Shea Butter Baby was released on the 16th of July, 2018. The debut single, Whipped Cream, from the album was released on the 5th of September, 2018 and featured a the music video. On the 9th of November 2018, she released another two singles, titled 40 Shades of Choke (and Grampa). Then on the 13th of November, two brand new singles, titled The No One and Pedigree. The singer appeared alongside Cole in the Creed II Soundtrack on Shea Butter Baby the 16th of November 16and later made the track available as a single by herself on her first album. The track was accompanied by an accompanying music video that debuted that was released on February 20, 2019 that surpassed three million views on YouTube within the first week. In December of 2018 the singer was a part of The From East Atlanta With Love Tour featuring 6LACK.
